Highlights

Big, soft and slow

A large soft swimbait moves differently from a hard lure - it flexes through the whole body, so the tail drives a slow, heavy roll that hard plastic cannot imitate.

Four lengths, 140 mm to 270 mm

From a big-predator lure to a genuinely large swimbait.

Sinking

Counts down to the depth you want, then swims on a slow, steady retrieve.

Phthalate-free soft plastic

A flexible body that drives the tail without needing speed.

Natural swimming action

The whole body works, not just the tail - which is what a hard lure cannot do.

Product description

About this product

A soft swimbait catches fish for a reason a hard lure cannot copy. The whole body flexes as it moves, so the tail drives a slow, heavy roll even at a crawl, and the lure feels right in a fish mouth for the half-second before the hook sets. On pressured fish and in cold or still water, that is often the difference.

The NBL8602 is made in four lengths – 140, 180, 220 and 270 mm – which spans a lot of ground. At 140 mm it is a general big-predator lure; at 270 mm it is a genuinely large swimbait aimed at the biggest fish in the water. It sinks, so you count it down to the depth you want and then swim it back slowly.

The plastic is phthalate-free, which is worth noting – the softeners used in cheap soft plastics are exactly what makes them melt into each other and into tackle-box trays. Noeby list it for pike and big game, freshwater and saltwater.

In Tanzania the obvious use is Nile perch on Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika, and tigerfish in the rivers, where a large soft swimbait is a proven bait. Inshore it will take big kingfish and cobia worked over reef.

One note: this lure is on Noeby China site as the Pro Shad Swimbait but we could not load that page to verify the hardware, so the figures here come from our supplier and from the product listing title. Ask us and we will open a packet in the shop.

Questions

Good to know

Does it come rigged with a hook?

Noeby do not publish the hardware for this lure and we could not load their product page to check. Ask us and we will open a packet in the shop and tell you exactly what is in it before you order.

Which length should I buy?

140 mm for general predator fishing on normal tackle; 180 and 220 mm for serious Nile perch and big kingfish; 270 mm only if you are specifically hunting the largest fish in the water and have the rod for it.

Where does it work in Tanzania?

Nile perch on Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika is the obvious one - a large soft swimbait is a proven bait there. Tigerfish in the rivers, and inshore it will take big kingfish and cobia worked slowly over reef.

How should I retrieve it?

Slowly. A soft swimbait works at speeds that leave a hard lure dead in the water - the body flex drives the tail even at a crawl. Count it down, then a slow steady wind with the occasional pause.

Why does phthalate-free matter?

Phthalate softeners are what make cheap soft plastics melt into each other and into plastic tackle trays. A phthalate-free bait stores next to other lures without ruining them, and it lasts longer in a hot country.

How many are in a packet?

That varies with the size. Ask us and we will confirm for the length you want before you order.

How do I store soft plastics in this heat?

Out of direct sun and out of a hot car, in their own bag or a dedicated compartment. Heat is what deforms them, and a bag left on a dashboard turns into one solid lump.

Can I reuse one after a fish?

Yes, until the body tears at the hook. Soft plastics are consumables - buy more than one of anything you intend to fish seriously.
