About this product

The MT2C Pro is the short one that throws. A UHi 20 LED with Nitecore’s crystal-coated PDOT optics gives 1,800 lumens and 67,000 candela, which puts the beam 520 metres out of a body just 117.5 mm long weighing 64 g.

The interface is deliberately plain: one tail switch, two brightness levels. It runs on an 18650 cell, and the NITECORE NL1836R 3,600 mAh cell supplied has a USB-C port built into the battery. CR123 and RCR123 primaries fit as an alternative, which is useful if the light lives in a vehicle or a safe.

Good to know

Only two brightness levels?

Yes, and for a lot of people that is the feature. High for seeing, low for working and for runtime. There is nothing to hold, count or remember when you pick it up in the dark.

Why would I use CR123 batteries?

They sit unused for a decade without losing much charge and cope with heat better than most cells. If the light lives in a vehicle, a boat or an emergency box, CR123 primaries mean it works when you finally reach for it.

How do I charge the included cell?

The NL1836R has its own USB-C port, so you charge the battery rather than the light. Carrying a second charged cell gives you an instant swap.

Is 520 metres useful in practice?

It is the difference between lighting your yard and lighting the far boundary of it. For identifying what made a noise at the end of a plot, reach matters more than raw lumens.

Will salt air damage it?

Not quickly. It is hard-anodised aluminium and IP68, with a stainless clip. Rinse and dry it after sea trips and keep the threads lightly greased.

Can I take it on a plane?

Yes in cabin baggage. The 18650 cell is about 13 Wh, well under the limit, but it must not travel in checked luggage. Tape or cap the terminals of spare cells.

Does it stand on its tail?

Yes, which turns it into a small room light against a ceiling during a power cut.
